According to police on Friday, November 7th, 2014, at approximately 3:20 p.m., the Niagara Regional Police Service, the Niagara Emergency Medical Service and the St.Catharines Fire Service, responded to reports of a single motor-vehicle collision that occurred on Linwell Road near The Meadows Street in the City of St.Catharines, Ontario.

Investigators have determined that a 2006 Chrysler Town & Country van, driven by a lone 71 year-old male from St.Catharines ,was travelling east on Linwell Road towards The Meadows Street.

The Chrysler left the roadway, mounted the curb on the south side of the road and continued onto the sidewalk. The Chrysler continued off the road in an easterly direction before striking a utility pole with its front end.

The 71 year-old driver was transported from the scene by ambulance to the St.Catharines General Hospital. Not long after his arrival, the driver was then transported to the Hamilton General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.
