Police report on January 15, 2015 at approximately 8:50AM that the Niagara Regional Police Service, Niagara Emergency Medical Services and the Niagara on the Lake Fire Service were called to the intersection of Line 4 Road and Concession 6 Road in Niagara on the Lake for a school bus that had been struck by a car.

The school bus was carrying nine students on its way to St. Michael Catholic Elementary School in Niagara on the Lake for classes and was struck on its side forcing it off the road into a ditch, although it remained upright.

Paramedics treated and transported five students from the scene to hospital with minor injuries. The students’ ages ranged from approximately seven to nine years old and have been treated and released from hospital. The 55 year old male bus driver was not injured.

The 49 year old female driver of the car was also unharmed and has been charged for failing to stop for a stop sign under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

Damage to both the car and the bus was significant.

The families of the students have been notified by school administrative staff.

Niagara Student Transportation Services and Niagara Catholic District School Board are continuing to work with the police in this investigation. (Map Below)
