At 8:54 PM on Monday March the 2nd 2015, Welland Fire and Emergency Services were called to 111 Victoria Street in response to a large structure fire.  The fire was quickly extinguished, but the building, believed to be a  former Vaughn Seed Company garage or storage shed was destroyed. Welland Fire Services later estimated the blaze caused $30,000.00 in damages.

In the aftermath of the blaze, investigators from the 3 District Detective Offices commenced an investiagtion to identify the cause of the fire. As a result of information received from several witnesses police were able to confirm that the fire had been deliberately set, and further, that an accelerent stolen from a nearby variety store had been used to initiate the fire.

Police say on Thursday March the 5th 2014, a 14 year old Welland resident was arrested, taken into custody and subsequently charged with Arson. That young person had a Bail Hearing on Friday March the 6th in St. Catharines, at which point he was released from custody.

On the afternoon of Friday March the 6th 2015 a second 14 year old young person was similarly arrested and charged with Arson in relation to the fire. That male was later released on conditions intended to prevent his involvement in further criminal incidents.

Due to the Provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, police may not identify the youths involved in this incident.
