At approximately 2:20 a.m. on Friday, April 3rd, 2015 the Pelham Fire Services, along with the Niagara Emergency Medical Services and the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to reports of a single motor vehicle fail to remain collision on Canboro Road west of Church Hill in the Town of Pelham, within the Regional Municipality of Niagara, Ontario.

Police say that initial investigation revealed that four teenagers were walking westbound on Canboro Road from Church Hill towards Haist Street, and had just crossed from the south sidewalk to the north boulevard.  At about the same time a 41-year-old Fonthill man was operating his 2005 Toyota Solaras westbound on Canboro Road.  The Toyota left the north edge of roadway and entered onto the boulevard striking two of the teenagers.

An 18-year-old male from Fonthill suffered minor injuries, was treated and released at the scene.  A 17-year-old female was thrown a significant distance after being struck by the vehicle and suffered serious injuries.  She was initially taken to the Niagara Health System before being transferred to the Hamilton Health Sciences McMaster Site where she remains in serious but stable condition.

The driver of the Toyota fled the scene without stopping to render assistance, provide his name or report the collision.  A civilian tip lead to the location of the Toyota in the village of Fenwick, and a follow up investigation lead to the arrest of 41-year-old Anderson WORMALD, who is being held at #1 District pending a bail hearing.  WORMALD is charged with Failing to Stop at the Scene of an Accident while Causing Bodily Harm, contrary to S.252(1.2) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

This incident remains under investigation by Detectives of the Collision Reconstruction Unit with the assistance of investigators from the Forensic Services Unit and #3 District Criminal Investigation Branch.  Any witnesses with information regarding this collision are asked to contact Investigators at (905) 688-4111, extension 5500.
