On Friday, April 10, 2015 at about 1:30 AM, the Grimsby Fire Department responded to a house fire at 6 Cottage Avenue in the Town of Grimsby.

Emergency Services personnel arrived to find the single story bungalow fully engulfed in flames. Further investigation revealed that the lone occupant of the house awoke to find his bedroom full of smoke. He felt intense heat from his bedroom door, so he escaped by jumping out of the bedroom window and called 9-1-1. The male was later transported to the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital for observation, as a result of smoke inhalation.

Police evacuated several nearby homes because of the danger of strong winds spreading the fire. However, the Grimsby Fire Department brought the fire under control and all residents were able to return to their homes before dawn.

The damage is estimated at $200,000. The fire is not deemed suspicious at this time, but Fire Department officials are still investigating the cause of the blaze.
