At approximately 3:25 PM on Monday April 20th, 2015 the Niagara Emergency Medical Services, Niagara Regional Police Service and St.Catharines Fire Services were dispatched for a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Bunting Road and Welland Avenue in the City of St.Catharines, within the Region of Niagara, Ontario.

Initial investigation revealed that a 45-year-old male was driving a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser northbound on Bunting Road and had stopped at the intersection of Welland Avenue waiting to make a left turn to go westbound on Welland Avenue.  The traffic lights changed and the driver of the Chrysler proceeded to clear the intersection when a 55-year-old male driving his 2001 Daewoo southbound on Bunting Road entered the intersection and collided with the Chrysler.  The Daewoo continued southbound coming into collision with a traffic signal pole on the southwest corner of the intersection.

The driver of the Daewoo had to be extricated from his vehicle and was transported to the Niagara Health System St.Catharines Site by ambulance before being air lifted to the Hamilton Health Sciences General Hospital Site, where he remains in critical condition.

The second driver did not suffer any injury in the collision, both drivers were alone in their vehicle and are residents of St.Catharines.

This collision remains under investigation by Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Services Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Forensic Services Unit.
