According to police, in the early hours of Tuesday July 7, 2015, a female sex trade worker was walking in a neighbourhood in downtown St. Catharines.  The female was approached by an unknown male in a vehicle and a conversation took place between them.  The female initially agreed to accompany the male, and they drove to a second location.

While at the second location, it is alleged that the male committed a violent assault on the female.  She struggled to get away from the male, and called out for someone to call police.  The suspect then fled the scene.

A Good Samaritan heard the call for help and immediately called 911.  Police arrived and initiated an investigation.

On Tuesday July 14, 2015, Tyler Woods, 22 years old, of Niagara Falls was arrested.  He is charged with the following;

  • One count of Sexual Assault
  • One count of Overcome Resistance to Commission of Offence

Mr. Woods is being held in custody pending a bail hearing, scheduled for July 15, 2015, at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse, 59 Church Street in the City of St. Catharines.
