According to police, on Wednesday December 9, 2015 shortly after 3:30 a.m.  members of the Niagara Regional Police Service and Niagara EMS attended a residence in the City of Thorold in response to a 911 call indicating that a male had been seriously assaulted.

 

Upon arrival at the residence, officers discovered the victim suffering from a number of injuries.  The victim was transported to the Niagara Health System St.Catharines Site where he was treated for his injuries prior to being released.  Members of the One District Detective Office commenced an investigation into this incident and discovered that shortly after returning to his residence, the victim was attacked by two males who appear to have been waiting for him.  The victim was able to call out for help and was then able to flee from the two attackers and call 911.   During the ensuing investigation, Detectives were able to identify one of the suspects who was subsequently taken into custody without incident at his residence.

Charged with one count of Assault with a Weapon, one count of Assault Causing Bodily Harm and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada is thirty (30) year old Tyler Okowinsky of St.Catharines.Okowinsky appeared for a Bail Hearing on Thursday December 10, 2015 and has since been released from Custody pending a future court date.

During the course of the investigation, Detectives executed a Search Warrant at Okowinsky’s residence where they located 18 grams of crack cocaine with a street value of approximately $1800.00.

As a result of the execution of the Search Warrant at Okowinksy’s residence, Okowinsky faces an additional charge of Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The execution of the Search Warrant has also resulted in twenty-four (24) year old Julie Chimenti also facing a charge of Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Both Chimenti and Okowinsky have been released from police custody with future court dates.

A second suspect in the assault remains outstanding and is described as follows:

A white male, mid 30′s, 5’8″ tall, pale white skin, cleanly shaven, large muscular build, 240-260 lbs, wearing black pants, a black long sleeve top,  black gloves and a black toque folded up around the brim.

This does not appear to have been a random act of violence as the victim in this matter appears to have been specifically targeted.
