It was a chilly night to have the power go off in st. Catharines last night with a couple of long flickers and then blackness…

The problem? An overhead distribution problem that started about 7 pm last night.

Horizon Utilities reported 2,431 customers were affected by the outage, in an area bounded by Ontario and Vine streets and Scott Street and Welland Avenue and the blackout included the intire Fairview Mall going into darkness as well as the YMCA.

Recordings on the Horizon power Outage hotline said power would be restored by 11:30 pm but things kicked in an hour ahead of schedule around 10:30 pm.

Yet another reminder of the importance of having an emergency kit on hand at home with candles, matches, flashlights and (working) batteries. How did you fare in the outage?
