According to police, on Monday, January 25th, 2016, at approximately 11:32 a.m., members of the Niagara Regional Police Service, the Niagara Emergency Medical Service and the Fort Erie Fire Service responded to reports of a single motor vehicle collision that had occurred on Aberdeen Street north of Bertie Street in the Town of Fort Erie, Ontario.

 

Investigators have determined that a 2015 Volkswagen Tiguan, driven by a  lone 73 year-old male from Fort Erie, was travelling north on Aberdeen Street and approaching Murray Street . The driver of the Volkswagen subsequently lost control of his vehicle and struck an unoccupied 2006 Toyota Tundra that was parked on the street.

Emergency crews quickly attended and transported the driver to a local hospital. It was at this time that the 73 year-old driver was pronounced dead. Police are not releasing the name of the deceased, pending notification of next-of-kin.

This collision remains under investigation by Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit. Any witnesses to the collision are asked to contact detectives at (905) 688-4111, extension 5500.
