It looks like the Hotel Dieu is going to be developed by Seasons Retirement Communities who say they are going to sink $145 million dollars into the site to build a retirement community.

Seasons, an Oakville based company, operates retirement communities across the province including one in Welland (located at 163 First Avenue).  Check out a pic of that site below:

The current project includes 560 retirement units spread out over the site which sits at 155 Ontario St. near Montebello Park and backs onto Twelve Mile Creek.  It includes plans for a 140-unit seniors care residence, two 200-unit apartment buildings and 20 townhomes.  There will be services that range from independant living to assisted living .

The 10 acre property will see the old hospital building torn down and the company said the massive project is to start this year.  It is hoped that numerous partnerships will be created as a result of the initiative and necessary services will be brought to the region that meet the needs of the aging population.
