According to on February 19th, 2016 a male resident of the city of St. Catharines observed a male suspect stealing his motor vehicle from his driveway. The victim attempted to intervene at which time, a minor altercation between the two occured which resulted in the victim sustaining minor injuries.

 

Police responding to the area and immediately located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.  The suspect failed to stop for police and a vehicle pursuit was initiated. After a brief pursuit, it was discontinued due to the risk of public safety.The vehicle had travelled throughout the region when it was eventually located in the city of Welland. At that time the officers were able to sucessfully and safely terminate the pursuit.

The suspect then fled on foot however was arrested after a short foot pursuit by a member of the Canine Unit.Charged with Robbery, Flight from Police, Fail to Remain, Dangerous Driving, Drive while Disqualified, Fail to Comply with Probation Order and Drive while Under Suspension is 42 year old Edward Hickens. Hickens was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
