Police say, on Monday, April 25th, 2016, at approximately 1:30 a.m., members of the Niagara Regional Police Service, the Niagara Emergency Medical Services and the Fort Erie Fire Department responded to reports of a single motor vehicle collision that resulted in a structure fire on Ridge Road North near Garrison Road in the Town of Fort Erie, Ontario.

Investigators have determined that a 46 year-old male from Fort Erie, was alone and driving his 2003 Pontiac Sunfire south on Ridge Road North towards Garrison Road. The Pontiac failed to negotiate a curve at that location and entered onto the east shoulder. The vehicle then crossed back across both lanes of traffic in a westerly direction where it struck an detached garage on the west side of Ridge Road North. The impact resulted in a fire that spread between the vehicle and the garage.

The 46 year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both the Pontiac and the garage were completely destroyed in the fire and damage is estimated in excess of $60,000.

Police are not releasing the name of the deceased.

This collision remains under investigation by the Ontario Coroner’s Office, the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office and Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Service’s Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Any witnesses to the collision are asked to contact Investigators at (905) 688-4111, extension 5500.
