Police say, on June 15, 2016, at approximately 2:00pm a 31 year old Niagara Falls man was driving a gray 2000 Volvo S80 eastbound on Thoroldstone Road near Beechwood Road in in Niagara Falls.  The Volvo had previously been reported stolen.

 
The man lost control of the car crossing the westbound lanes of Thoroldstone Road and entered a ditch.  The lone driver was observed crawling from the driver’s door and then fleeing the scene northbound into a bush area.

Uniform officers for the 2 District Niagara Falls station of the Niagara Regional Police Service attended and set up a perimeter.  Constable (Cst.)  Donal McCann and Police Service Dog (PSD) Havoc also attended the scene. Cst McCann and Havoc tracked the man through agriculture fields and bush area.  At 3:28pm the man was located and arrested by Cst. McCann and Havoc.

David Shelley is charged with:

– Possession of Property obtained by Crime contrary to section 355(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
– Driving While Disqualified contrary to section 259(4) of the Criminal Code of Canada
Shelley was treated at a local hospital for the minor injuries he sustained from entering the ditch.
Shelley was released on an Officer in Charge / Promise to Appear with conditions.  He will appear in the St. Catharines courthouse on August 3, 2016.
