Police say, at approximately 7:25 PM on Wednesday June 29th, 2016 the Niagara Emergency Medical Services, Niagara Regional Police Service and Welland Fire Services were dispatched for a motor vehicle collision on Moyer Road south of Carl Road in the City of Welland, within the Region of Niagara, Ontario.

 

Initial investigation revealed that a 47-year-old Welland male was riding his 1996 Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound on Moyer Road behind a group of six other motorcycles. This male decided to pass this group and entered the southbound lane on Moyer Road. As this male was passing he collided head on with a southbound 2011 Dodge Caliber motor vehicle that was being driven by a 72-year-old female Welland resident.

The motorcycle rider suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Coroner.

The driver of the Dodge was air lifted to a Hamilton Hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries. One of the six motorcycles being passed was struck by debris and sustained minor damage while the rider of this motorcycle was uninjured.

This collision remains under investigation by the Coroner’s Office and Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Services Collision Reconstruction Unit.
