Police say, in August 2016, members of the Canada Border Service in Toronto intercepted a package containing a large quantity of cocaine from Jamaica addressed to an individual from the St.Catharines area.

 

A continued investigation was conducted by Canada Border Service Niagara Branch and members of the Niagara Regional Police Service who conducted a controlled delivery on August 17th 2016 of this package. Through surveillance, Police were able to identify several other parties that were responsible for importing the cocaine into Canada.

During the evening hours of August 17th 2016, Police arrested three individuals in the Hamilton area.

Arrested and charged was 31 year old Shane

CUMBERBATCH AGARD has been charged with the following offence;

Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking
Possession of Proceeds of Crime Under $5000
Breach Probation

Arrested and charged was 28 year old Donovan GORDON of Hamilton
GORDON has been charged with the following offence;
Import Scheduled Substance
Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking

Arrested and charged was 38 year old Belinda ANDERSON of Hamilton
ANDERSON has been charged with the following offence;
Import Scheduled Substance
Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking

On Thursday August 18th 2016, Police arrested a fourth individual in St.Catharines.

Arrested and charged was 50 year old Harley ECKERT of St.Catharines.
ECKERT has been charged with the following offence;
Import Scheduled Substance
Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking

This investigation involved investigators from the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) St.Catharines Street Crime Unit, Morality Unit, Intelligence Unit, Uniform Patrol and Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) Toronto and Niagara Branches. This investigation is a direct result of a strong partnership between the Niagara Regional Police Service and Canada Border Service Agency.

In total, Police seized $20,000 worth of cocaine during this investigation. All parties are held in custody pending a morning bail hearing which is scheduled on Monday August 22nd 2016.
