In August of 2016 members of the Niagara Regional Police Sexual Assault Unit entered into an investigation involving allegations of historical child sex offences in the city of St Catharines.

 

Police say as a result of the investigation; on August 16, 2016 an arrest was made and charged with eight counts of sexual assault, eight counts of sexual interference and eight counts of invitation to sexual touching was 60 year old St Catharines resident, Jeffrey Cairns.  Jeffrey Cairns was held in custody pending a bail hearing.  He was released the following day on a recognizance of bail before a Justice of the Peace.

The investigation continued following the initial arrest as it was suspected that there were additional complainants who had not yet come forward.  In the months to follow, a number of additional complainants came forward to police and new allegations were made.

As a result of the follow up investigation; on October 25, 2016, Jeffrey Cairns was arrested.

In addition to the original charges from August 16, 2016, Jeffrey Cairns is charged with three counts of sexual assault, sexual interference and two counts of sexual exploitation.

Jeffrey Cairns was held in custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing on October 25, 2016 at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church Street in the city of St Catharines.
