The 20th Welland Scouting are starting a new tradition to make sure we will remember those that served our country.

On Saturday Nov 5th the Venture Scouts and Rover Scouts placed Canadian Flags on the graves of those that have served and are buried in both the Woodlawn Cemetery and Holy Cross Cemetery at the corner of Niagara Street and Woodlawn Cemetery in Welland.

They have identified 96 grave sites that have either a Veterans affairs marker or a marker that contains the Royal Canadian Legions markings and placed flags at the Headstones of those that served with our Military, Canadian National Forestry, RCMP, the monument for Welland Fire Fighters and veterans of allied forces.

The Canadian Legion Br #4 has added their their support to the initiative as well as both cemetery boards who have given them their support.  In addition Vance Badawey’s office has ensured that the proper paper Canadian flags needed for this project are secured.

The annual Welland Remembrance Day Parade and ceremony in Welland takes place today at the Chippawa Park Cenotaph, First Avenue Welland at 1:45 today.  For more information CLICK HERE.
