Police say, at approximately 10:05 p.m. on Friday, December 16th, 2016, the Niagara Emergency Medical Services, Niagara Falls Fire Department and the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection of Ferry Street and Sylvia Place in the City of Niagara Falls, within the Regional Municipality of Niagara.

 

Initial investigation revealed that 23-year-old Christopher James Harvey of Welland was driving a 2002 Ford Focus motor vehicle northbound on Sylvia Place and failed to stop for the stop sign at Ferry Street. A collision occurred between this Ford and a 2012 GMC Sierra pickup truck that was being driven westbound on Ferry Street by a 44-year-old male from Dunnville.

The Ford left the roadway and struck a 50-year-old female from Hamilton who was walking on the sidewalk. This female pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The two occupants in the Ford and the five occupants in the GMC did not suffer any injuries in this collision.

Christopher James Harvey was placed under arrest and has been charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Cause Death and Obstruct Police. This collision remains under investigation by Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Services Collision Reconstruction Unit.
