On Tuesday February 28, police say they entered into an investigation after being contacted by a member of the public regarding an incident in the Niagara Region.

 

As a result of the investigation, on April 18, 2017, Niagara Regional Police Constable Mark Taks was arrested. Taks will be charged with the alleged offences of:

Criminal Harassment
Harassing Telecommunications

The incident occurred while the officer was off duty and Constable Taks has been held in custody pending a bail hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice on April 19, 2017 at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St.Catharines.

Constable Taks has been a police officer with the NRPS for two years, and is presently assigned to uniform patrol.

In accordance with the Police Services Act of Ontario, Constable Taks has been suspended with pay pending further investigation.

As the matter is now before the courts, no further comment or details will be provided.
