Police say that early this morning about 2:30 am, Niagara Regional Police responded to a call for a disturbance at the Tim Hortons Restaurant located at 563 Niagara Street in Welland.

 

Police initially responded to the area after receiving reports of approximately 15-20 people in the parking lot that were causing a disturbance by fighting. Upon arrival, police located a male that had been stabbed during the altercation.

The victim, a 19 year old male, was stabbed in the torso and was transported to the Welland Hospital by ambulance. He remains in hospital in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.

At approximately 12:00 pm, police arrested a 17 year old male from Welland and charged him with Aggravated Assault and Assault with a Weapon. The identity of the accused will not be released under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He was a held in custody pending a bail hearing on Monday, July 30, 2017, in the City of St. Catharines.
