Niagara College will move forward with its graduation ceremonies this week despite all the disruptions with the strike activity with college teachers that started Oct 6, 2017.

The union that represents the faculty sent out a notice to members advising teachers to not participate in any convocation activities on Friday and that crossing the line to attend the event constitutes strike breaking and can result in fines being levied.

However, all striking teachers are being asked to gather at the Welland campus Friday from 8 am to 11 am as attendees arrive for the ceremony for a silent protest. OPSEU Local 242, stated that this will not be a picket, no signs will be carried and traffic will not be impeded.

A rally will follow at 1:00 pm at the Rice Road Community Church. The move by teachers at Niagara college differs from Mohawk College, which cancelled its convocation ceremonies because of the strike by faculty.
