On November 15, 2017, a member of the public discovered what they believed to human remains in the area Gorham Rd. and Cherry Hill Blvd. near the Friendship Trail in Fort Erie.

 

Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) detectives requested the assistance of a forensic anthropologist who confirmed the remains to be human.

Over the weekend of November 18, 2017 significant evidentiary ground searches were conducted near the location where the remains were discovered.  The following agencies assisted the 5 District Fort Erie detectives with their investigation:

– University of Toronto Anthropology Department student volunteers
– Search and Rescue Niagara
– Ontario Provincial Police cadaver K9
– Fort Erie Fire Services
– Niagara Regional Coroner’s Office
– NRPS Auxiliary officers
– NRPS Forensic Services Unit
– NRPS Emergency Task Unit
– NRPS Marine Unit
The scene has now been opened up and cleared.

A post mortem examination will be conducted in the next 24-48hrs to assist with determining the cause of death and identify of the deceased.
