The Niagara Regional Police Service say that the death of a man on Martindale Pond is not being treated as suspicious.

Yesterday, the 42 year old man was reported missing after he failed to return home following plans to skate on Martindale Pond during the day.

Officers in St. Catharines as well as officers from the Marine / Underwater Search and Recovery (USRU) and Forensic Services Unit attended the scene and deployed an Unmanned Arial Vehicle UAV in the search for the missing man in the area of the pond.

The UAV operators were able to identify a possible search area and at approximately 6:30pm, members of the USRU were able to recover the body of the man from under the ice.

No foul play is suspected in the man’s death and the victim’s name is not being release out of respect to his next of kin.
