Last night at 10:15 p.m.  the Niagara Emergency Medical Services, Welland Fire Services and the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a motor vehicle on Southworth Street near Morningstar Avenue in Welland.

 

Initial investigation revealed that a 2009 Pontiac Vibe was being driven northbound on Southworth Street by a 22-year-old Welland male when a 65-year-old Welland female who was crossing Southworth Street and walking westbound, stepped into the path of this motor vehicle.

This female pedestrian was then struck a second time by a southbound 2002 Chevrolet Suburban being driven by a 42-year-old Wainfleet male. This female pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and her name is not being released out of respect for the family.

Neither driver suffered any physical injuries in this collision.

This collision remains under investigation by the Coroner’s Office and Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Services Collision Reconstruction Unit.
