The search continues this morning for 29 year old Niagara Falls woman Alicia Kirkwood  who has been missing since 3 p.m. Friday afternoon.

Initial investigation by Niagara Regional Police revealed that the woman fell into the Niagara River  while hiking in the gorge area with her boyfriend.  Reports say that a rock gave way when Kirkwood was walking near the water and she fell in.

The area was searched after the accident by helicopter and jet boat as well as by foot until dark.  The search resumed Saturday with negative results.

Today, community members continue the search as well.  Additionally, Bill Bolton who heads an independent tactical search and rescue group (Advanced Tactical Training and Rescue), was contacted by the family to assist in the efforts.

Bolton characterizes the operation as likely a recovery at this point, not a rescue.
