The Niagara Regional Police are asking for the public’s assistance with an ongoing investigation after a body was recovered from the Welland Recreational Waterway.

Police are looking to speak with anyone who may have been in the area of the Lincoln Street Bridge on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, between the hours of 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm.
Yesterday, the NRPS began investigating a missing person call, as a Welland youth had been reported missing by his family after he failed to return home the previous evening.

At approximately 6:20 pm, the male was located in the Recreational Waterway near the Lincoln Street Bridge. The Regional Coroner was notified of the recovery and the body was removed from the water. An autopsy has been scheduled to assist in determining the cause of death.

The family of the deceased have been notified of the recovery. At the request of the family, the identity of the youth is not being released at this time.

Members of the 3 District Detective Office continue to investigate this matter. Anyone with information is asked to please call (905) 688 4111 ext. 4330.
