On Sunday, May 24th, at about 3:30am, emergency personnel responded to a single motor vehicle collision. The collision occurred along the Welland Canal Parkway, near Service Road West, in Thorold.

 

Police say officers arrived on scene to find a 26 year old male from St. Catharines was trapped in a white Chevrolet Cruze. A bystander had attempted to rescue the driver from the damaged car.

Niagara EMS paramedics attended the scene. However, due to the extent of trauma the driver sustained, he was pronounced deceased on-scene.

The investigation determined there were no other passengers in the vehicle, however a dog survived the crash and the Humane Society was contacted to assist.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation by detectives with the Niagara Regional Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, the Forensic Service Unit, the Traffic Enforcement Unit and the office of the Coroner.
