Niagara Region Public Health has advised the District School Board of Niagara that an individual at Valley Way Public School has tested positive for COVID-19.

For privacy reasons, the identity of the individual will not be shared.

Following protocol, students and staff who were in close proximity to the individual are being contacted and told by NRPH to stay home and self-isolate.

Custodians will complete a thorough cleaning of the school this evening. A Public Health Inspector and a Public Health Nurse from NRPH will visit the school to complete a comprehensive assessment.

The preventative COVID-19 practices that Valley Way has been following since the beginning of school, such as wearing PPE, physical distancing, hand hygiene, and doing the daily health screening, will continue.

Valley Way Public School and the DSBN will continue to work collaboratively with Niagara Region Public Health to ensure the school meets all the health and safety protocols required.

If community members have questions about COVID-19, they are welcome to call Niagara Region Public Health’s COVID-19 Info-Line for assistance from a Public Health Nurse, which is staffed Monday to Friday, 9:15 a.m. – 8:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 9:15 a.m. – 4:15 p.m. at 905-688-8248 or toll-free at 1-888-505-6074.
