On November 2, 2014 at 11:13pm, Police, Fire and Ambulance crews responded to reports of a fire at 30 Hamilton Street in the City of St Catharines.  This location contains 3 separate apartments.

According to police, upon arrival it was determined that smoke was coming from one of the units.  Fire Department personnel gained access to the smoke-filled apartment and removed a 51 year old male to safety.  The source of the smoke was quickly extinguished. The male was provided emergency medical care at the scene and subsequently transported by Ambulance to the Niagara Health System St Catharines Hospital Site.  The male is currently listed in Critical condition.

Residents of the other apartments at this location were evacuated and no other persons were injured as a result of this fire.  The origin of the fire is believed to be from within the injured male’s apartment.

Occupants of the other apartments at this address have been allowed to return to their apartments.  The injured male’s apartment is currently being held for further investigation by the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshall, the St Catharines Fire Department, and the Niagara Regional Police Service.

Foul play is not suspected at this time.
