According to police, on Saturday, November 22nd, 2014 at approximately 1:00 a.m. the Niagara Regional Police Service, the Niagara Emergency Medical Services and the Welland Fire Rescue and Emergency Services responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on East Main Street near Darby Road in the City of Welland, within the Regional Municipality of Niagara, Ontario.

Initial investigation revealed that a 40 year old Niagara Falls male was driving a 2004 Kia motor vehicle east bound and an 18 year old female resident of Welland was driving a 2012 Chevrolet motor vehicle west bound on East Main Street. The two vehicles collided head on causing extensive damage to both vehicles. The drivers were the only occupants in the vehicles and they both suffered life threatening injures. The drivers were transported by ambulance to the Niagara Health System – Welland Hospital Site and then to the Hamilton Health Sciences – General Hospital Site by air ambulance.

This collision remains under investigation by Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Services Collision Reconstruction Unit.
