According to police, at approximately 11:45 PM on Saturday, November 14th, 2015, the Niagara Emergency Medical Services, Welland Fire Services and the Niagara Regional Police Service were dispatched for a single motor vehicle collision on Netherby Road east of Doan’s Ridge Road in the City of Welland, in the Region of Niagara.
Initial investigation revealed that 36-year-old Gary Yager of Fort Erie and his 37-year-old female passenger were west bound on Netherby Road when the 2002 Chrysler motor vehicle that Yager was driving left the traveled portion of the roadway and struck a large tree on the south side of the road.

The female passenger had to be extricated from the vehicle and suffered life threatening injuries. She was air lifted to the Hamilton Health Sciences General Hospital Site in critical condition where she remains in critical but stable condition. Yager suffered serious injuries and was transported to the Niagara Health System Greater Niagara General Site by ambulance.

Yager has been charged with the Criminal Code offence of Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle – Cause Bodily Harm.

This collision remains under investigation by Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Services Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Forensic Services Unit.
