According to police, at approximately 8:10 p.m. on Monday, February 1st, 2016 the Niagara Regional Police Service, along with the Niagara Emergency Medical Services and Volunteer Firefighters from the Pelham Fire Department Station #2 in Fenwick, responded to reports of a single vehicle collision on Regional Road 20 just west of Rosedene Road in the Township of West Lincoln, within the Regional Municipality of Niagara, Ontario.

 

Initial investigation revealed that a 19-year-old Welland man was operating a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu eastbound on Regional Road 20 with an 18-year-old female passenger in the front seat.  Approximately 500 metres west of Rosedene Road the Chevrolet left the south edge of the roadway and came into collision with a tree.

As a result of the severity of the collision, both occupants were trapped inside the vehicle and required the assistance of the Pelham Fire Department to be extricated.  Both occupants were initially transported by ambulance to the Niagara Health System.  The 19-year-old Welland man was then transferred by air ambulance, while the 18-year-old female was land transferred to Hamilton Health Sciences, both with life-threatening injuries.

The names of the involved parties are not being released and the Niagara Regional Police Service asks that you respect the privacy of the families involved.

This incident remains under investigation by Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Services Collision Reconstruction Unit.  Any witnesses with information regarding this collision are asked to contact Investigators at (905) 688-4111, extension 5500.
