Police say, in the late evening of December 1, 2015, an altercation between two men took place outside a west St. Catharines bar. As a result, 29-year-old Jonathan Lougheed of Rykert Street, St. Catharines was transported to hospital by ambulance. Mr. Lougheed left the hospital prior to being treated.

 

On the morning of December 3rd, Mr. Lougheed was found deceased inside his Rykert Street home. The Niagara Regional Police Service conducted an investigation and discovered that Mr. Lougheed had been involved in an altercation. The day following his death, a postmortem examination was conducted in Hamilton.

In late April, Niagara homicide investigators received the results of the autopsy that confirmed the cause of death.

On May 4, 2016, 49-year-old Shane Thomas Bellefeuille of St. Catharines was arrested and will be charged with Manslaughter in connection with Mr. Lougheed’s death.  Bellefeuille is being held in police custody and will appear Thursday morning at the Robert S. Welch Courthouse.
