On September 24, 2016, 3 District – Welland uniform officers were called to the area of Moyer Road and Carl Road in Welland, for a driving complaint.  Officers attended the scene and met with a male and a female who had each been driving their own vehicles.

 
Police say the subsequent criminal investigation was conducted by detectives from the 1 District Criminal Investigations Branch.  As a result of the investigation the male driver has been arrested and charged.

Edward Pittman of Welland is charged with the alleged offences of:

  • Personation of a police officer contrary to section 130(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to section 249(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Criminal Harassment contrary to section 264(2)(d) of the Criminal Code of Canada

Pittman was released from custody on an Officer in Charge Undertaking.  His next court date is December 30, 2016.

Edward Pittman had been a police officer with the Niagara Regional Police Service for approximately 36 years.  He retired in May of 2012.
