Police say on May 6, 2017, at 5:00 am uniform officers from the 2 District Niagara Falls office of the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to a residence in the area of Forsythe Street and Slater Avenue in Niagara Falls for a report of a violent residential break in and robbery.

 

Officers arrived on scene to find that a violent struggle had taken place between the lone victim/occupant of the residence and the suspects that had forced their way in.  Detectives from the Niagara Falls Criminal Investigations Branch and the NRPS Forensic Services Unit were called to the scene and the investigation revealed the struggle within the residence had involved weapons.  The investigation further revealed that this was not a random act and the residence had been targeted.

While on-scene the victim, a 24 year old man from Niagara Falls became assaultive with uniform officers.  He was subsequently arrested.  The identity of the victim is not being released for his protection. He will face the charges of:

Assault police
Aggravated Assault x 2
Further charges are pending

The suspects fled the scene prior to police arrival. A short time later two males attended a local hospital suffering serious but stable injuries.  Officers from the NRPS attended the hospital to further investigate the matter.  The males receiving treatment for their injuries were found to be suspects in the residential break and enter in the area of Forsyth Street and Slater Avenue.

The following two males have been arrested and charged with Robbery:

1) Derek Horth (25 years old from Niagara Falls)
2) Cody Taylor (28 years old from Hamilton)

This investigation remains ongoing by detectives.  The public is asked to contact detectives or Crimes Stoppers of Niagara if they have information about the other suspects involved or their friends and associates.  Anyone with information can call detectives at 905-688-4111, extension 2200.
