In February 2017, the Niagara Regional Police Central Fraud Unit say they began an extensive investigation after receiving complaints about cruises that were being offered by a Ridgeway resident.

Over 140 complainants alleged that Karen Gushue, also known as Karen Robinson and Karen Hannis, solicited funds between August 2016 and February 2017 for multiple cruises that were either never booked or were not as advertised.

As a result of that investigation, on May 9, 2017, investigators arrested 48 year old Karen Gushue from Ridgeway and charged her with 1 count of Fraud  Over $5,000  ( defraud the public ) and 1 count of Fraud Under $5,000.  She was held for a bail hearing and released with numerous conditions on May 10, 2017.

Based on information received during the course of the cruise investigation, detectives launched an investigation into a failed rent-to-own agreement in relation to a Fort Erie home.  On Thursday July 6, 2017 investigators arrested  48 year old Karen Gushue and 56 year old Michael Gushue, both from Fort Erie.

The Gushues are charged with Fraud Over $5,000 and Uttering a Forged Document. They were held in custody and released with several conditions following a  bail hearing on July 7th.
