It is voting day in Canada and excitement has been building to this moment as Canadians across the country are heading to the polls to cast their 2025 federal election ballots to pick which party will form the country’s next government.
The process – one of the most critical votes in Canadian history – will also appoint a prime minister to lead Canada during turbulent times, with the set to the backdrop of increased tensions relating to U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs and trade war.
The two parties that have held the spotlight are Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives and Mark Carney’s Liberals. It’s been a tight race ever since a federal election was called in March 2025, which came following the resignation of PM Justin Trudeau, the prorogation of Parliament and the appointment of Carney as prime minister and the leader of the Liberal Party.

Already, 7.3 million Canadians have cast their votes in the advanced polls that ran over the course of the Easter long-weekend. Today, starting at 8:30 a.m. NST on the East Coast polls opened, until they close at 7 p.m. PST out West.
