On Thursday April 9th, 2015 at 7:41 PM Niagara Emergency Medical Services, Niagara Regional Police and Thorold Fire Services were dispatched for a single motor vehicle collision on Merrittville Highway north of Port Robinson Road in the City of Welland, in the Region of Niagara.

Initial investigation revealed that a 2014 Honda motor vehicle was travelling south bound on Merrittville Highway and gradually left the travelled portion of the roadway onto the gravel shoulder and into the ditch where it struck a culvert. This motor vehicle then become airborne and rolled over before coming to rest in the field to the west side of Merrittville Highway. The 29 year old female driver is a resident of Welland and she was the sole occupant in the vehicle. This driver was ejected from the vehicle and suffered life threatening injuries as a result of the collision. She was transported to the Welland Health Sciences General Hospital Site and then to Niagara Health System St.Catharines Site where she remains in critical condition.

This collision remains under investigation by Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Services Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Forensic Services Unit.
