According to police, on Wednesday, June 24th, 2015 at 12:09 am an officer with the Niagara Regional Police Service’s Special Enforcement Unit stopped a female driver for speeding 31km/hr over the posted speed limit on McLeod Road in Niagara Falls near Alex Drive.

The female driver provided the officer with her photo driver’s licence, vehicle ownership and insurance. She was found to have consumed alcohol and was required to provide a breath sample into a roadside screening device. This resulted in her registering an “Alert” causing her driver’s licence to immediately suspended for 3 days.

The officer allowed the female to retrieve her cell phone from her vehicle to make arrangements for a licenced driver to attend so the expense of towing the vehicle could be avoided.

The female attended the passenger side of her vehicle and removed her cell phone and appeared to be making a phone call. She suddenly ran around her vehicle, got in the driver seat and accelerated away at an extremely high rate of speed. The officers activated their emergency lights and siren and pursued eastbound on Marineland Parkway and onto Portage Road but immediately aborted the pursuit.  Her speed was in excess of 140km/hr and her dangerous driving while under the influence of alcohol was placing the public in danger. Her identity was not an issue as she had left her photo identification with the officer.

Police left a phone message at the female’s residence and she attended 1 District in St. Catharines and surrendered herself later that morning.

Jessica JEFFREY, 31yrs, of St Catharines is charged with Dangerous Driving, Flight from Police, Failing to comply with her Probation Order x2, Driving while under suspension, and multiple other Highway Traffic Act offences. She was held for a bail hearing and later released on a recognizance with multiple conditions including a driving prohibition.
