Police say, on Thursday June 25th 2015, Members of the Special Enforcement Unit conducted seatbelt checks at Niagara Street and West Main Street in the City of Welland.
Police were at this location for only 30 minutes which resulted in one driver being arrested for Impaired Driving Over 80mgs. The driver was initially stopped for not wearing his seatbelt. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle seized and impounded for 7 days.
In addition, 13 Provincial Offence Notices were issued, 9 of which were for seatbelt infractions.
The Niagara Regional Police will remain diligent by conducting regular traffic enforcement and education through routine patrol and designated spot checks. Please do your part by wearing your seatbelt, use hands free options and report impaired drivers by calling 911.
