According to police, at approximately 6:00 PM On Thursday, August 6th, 2015, the Niagara Emergency Medical Services, Fort Erie Fire Department and the Niagara Regional Police Service were dispatched for a cyclist versus motor vehicle collision on Point Abino Road north of Gilmore Road in the Town of Fort Erie, in the Region of Niagara.

 

Initial investigation revealed that a 77-year-old female resident of Fort Erie was riding her CCM bicycle northbound on Point Abino Road when she attempted to turn left and crossed into the path of a northbound 1999 Chevrolet van that was being driven by a 60-year-old St Catharines male. The bicycle and the Chevrolet collided and ended up in the ditch on the west side of the roadway.

 

This female cyclist suffered life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, New York where she remains in critical condition. The driver and passenger in the Chevrolet did not suffer any injuries.

 

This collision remains under investigation by Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Services Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Forensic Services Unit.
