According to police, in February of 2015, members of the Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit, commenced an investigation into the online Extortion of a female under 16 years of age.  After a thorough and exhaustive investigation, Detectives in the Saskatchewan ICE Unit identified the suspect in the matter as being a resident of the Niagara Region.

 

In July of 2015, members of the Niagara Regional Police Service’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit began furthering the investigation into the identification of the local resident.

On Friday August 28th, 2015, members of the Niagara Regional Police Service’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit, along with members of the Niagara Regional Police Service’s Technological Crimes Unit, executed several search warrants in Niagara Falls, St. Catharines, and Fort Erie, Ontario.

As a result of the investigation, 23 year old Niagara Falls resident Kyle JONES was arrested for the following charges:

Offence of Possession of Child Pornography, Contrary to Section 163.1(4) of the Criminal Code of Canada,

Extortion without reasonable justification or excuse and with intent to obtain child pornographic images on the Internet contrary to Section 346(1.1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Distribute Child Pornography, contrary to Section 163.1(3) of the Criminal Code of Canada,

Access Child Pornography, contrary to Section 163.1(4.1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Offence of Lure a Child, contrary to section 172.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada to wit; by means of a computer system within the means of subsection 342.1(2) of the Criminal Code of Canada, communicate with a person who is under the age of 18 for the purpose of facilitating an offence under subsection 163.1 with respect to that person; make child pornography

Offence of Lure a Child, contrary to section 172.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada to wit; by means of a computer system within the means of subsection 342.1(2) of the Criminal Code of Canada, communicate with a person who is under the age of 18 for the purpose of facilitating an offence under subsection 163.1 with respect to that person; distribution of child pornography

JONES will be held in custody pending a bail hearing that will take place at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church Street, St. Catharines, Ontario
