At approximately 7:10 PM on Tuesday, July 19th, 2016, the Niagara Emergency Medical Services, Wainfleet Fire Department and the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to reports of a cyclist collision on Regional Road 27 (River Rd) near Elsie Road, in the Township of Wainfleet, within the Regional Municipality of Niagara.

 

Police say that an initial investigation revealed that a 42-year-old male resident of Pelham was riding his road bicycle with a group of riders westbound on Regional Road 27 when he lost control of his bicycle and fell to the ground and struck his head. One of the other riders in the group was unable to take evasive action and collided with the fallen cyclist. This second rider was uninjured in the collision.

The 42-year-old cyclist was found to be in critical condition. Resuscitative efforts were unsuccessful and the cyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision. This collision remains under investigation by the Coroner’s Office and Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Services Collision Reconstruction Unit.
