If you love chicken wings, here’s a hot tip for the weekend…the Wing Festival begins Saturday at Lakeside Park in Port Dalhousie.

All of the proceeds from the weekend festival will go to Community Care of St. Catharines and Thorold and it was organized by  a group of  professionals from across the city, including Karl Vanderkuip, a RE/MAX broker and a board member for Community Care. Community Care provides 17 essential services for people in need, including food, shelter, security, emergency services and support.

Seven restaurants will be competing for the best wings title and partakers will be able to vote for their favourite wings at www.wingfest.ca/vote.

The restaurants competing include: Cat’s Caboose, Kully’s Original Sports Bar, The Manhattan Bar & Grill, Redline BBQ Catering, Roberto’s Pizza Passion, Romby’s Smokehouse Tavern, and Wrigley’s Sports Bar & Lounge. The winner will get to claim the title “king of the chicken wing” as well as a leather belt.

For the BIG EATERS there will also be a hot wings eating contest.  If you want to participate all you need to do is donate $20 to Community Care and you can sign up at: wingfest.ca/register.

Music and beer from Lock Street Brewing Co. will be part of the event and even a RE/MAX hot air balloon ride will take passengers 45 metres into the air on a tethered rope. For a $10 donation, people can see Lake Ontario, Martindale Pond, and the Garden City from 6 p.m. until sunset Saturday.

The festival will run 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. Alternative parking will be available at Jaycee Park.

Why not come out for a great cause and a great day of entertainment!
