Everyone knows that Niagara Falls is known as the “Honeymoon Capital of the World”, and it’s full of beautiful and romantic spots to enjoy. Maybe with Christmas coming and the New Year on our tail, this series of photos may influence an engagement perhaps?
Journey Behind the Falls
Journey Behind the Falls is an attraction that is open year-round (*weather permitting on access to this main lookout point). Elevators descend 150 feet through bedrock to tunnels that lead and to the Cataract Portal and the Great Falls Portal which is one third of the way behind the massive sheet of water. Then you walk on to the Upper and Lower Observation Decks at the very foot of the Falls. This is the perfect backdrop to a romantic photo setting.
Winter Festival of Lights
Take a late night stroll anywhere throughout the 8KM stretch of the Winter Festival of Lights and you are bound to find a romantic spot for a photo opportunity.
Niagara Skywheel
With beautiful views of the American and Horseshoe Falls and the Niagara horizon, it’s no wonder that engagements happen on a frequent basis on the Niagara SkyWheel. You’ll get your own private gondola, which is heat controlled for the ultimate in privacy and comfort. Enjoy the views and the romantic setting that Winter brings.
Oakes Garden Theatre
A quiet and serene location at the bottom of Clifton Hill is the Oakes Garden Theatre. Constructed in 1936, designers created a curved pergola overlooking a central amphitheatre, with amazing views of the American and Horseshoe Falls. This is a photographers paradise in the Winter, with rock gardens, ponds and shrub borders that have been created around formalized gardens, with attractive ornamental iron gates and Queenston limestone around the perimeter. Be sure to capture the trees lit up for the Winter Festival of Lights.
Skylon Tower
Whether you decide to stick to simply a “ride to the top” for panoramic views of the Niagara skyline from the observation deck, or a romantic dinner at the Revolving Dining Room Restaurant for a feast with a view, the Skylon Tower offers romance and beauty for the Winter season (and year round).
Dufferin Islands
Take a drive (or walk!) through Niagara’s hidden gem all lit up for the season. Dufferin Islands features 10 acres of serenity – a quiet, secluded park containing several small islands connected by small bridges and footpaths. Come here for a magical experience around Christmas-time with the one you love.
Niagara – on-the-Lake
For “old-time” romance, head into Niagara-on-the-Lake to experience timeless history in a vintage setting. Winter sees horse-drawn carriage rides, decked out Bed and Breakfast hotels adorned in Christmas decorations, and of course, visiting art galleries, and having dinner at a romantic restaurant on Queen Street.
Queenston Park
Standing 185 feet high, is Brock’s Monument located in Queenston Park. This structure was dedicated to Major General Sir Isaac Brock, one of Canada’s heroes of the War of 1812. On a Winter’s day, not only will you capture beauty, but a piece of history as well.
Table Rock
The Table Rock Complex overlooks the Horseshoe Falls, and has fabulous lookout points that place you mere yards away from the thundering Horseshoe Falls. The complex is open daily and also features shops, restaurants, and is also the location to capture more amazing Winter shots from the “Journey Behind the Falls” (see#1).
