Niagara Regional Police say that on Thursday, April 12, 2018, officers responded to a welfare check in the City of Port Colborne.

 

The investigation resulted in police finding the body of a 55 year old female that was deceased in the area of the Port Colborne dog park on Elm Street and a loose dog in the north end of the park.

The dog park has been closed to the public since this time to assist with the investigation. It is expected that the park will reopen shortly and the area was closed for investigative purposes only and there is no concern for public safety within the dog park area.

Police are asking for the public’s assistance and looking to speak with anyone who may have been in the area of the dog park or observed a female walking with a dog on Elm Street sometime between Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at 10:00pm and Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 7:00am.

The dog found at the scene was a black Labrador Retriever.

Caucasian
Heavyset
Short grey/blond curly hair
Black jeans
Black boots
Dark blue wind breaker

The name of the deceased, who has been identified and next of kin notified, is not being released at this time.
