Police say that yesterday about 4:30 p.m. , the Niagara Emergency Medical Services, Wainfleet Fire Services and the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to reports of an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) collision on Regional Road 45 east of Marshagan Road in Wainfleet.

 

Initial investigation revealed that a 37-year-old Wainfleet man was operating an Arctic Cat ATV westbound on Regional Road 45 when he lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway and struck a tree.

The rider and ATV continued across a field and came to final stop in the Welland River. This rider suffered life threatening injuries and was air lifted to an out of town hospital in critical condition. The rider later succumbed to his injuries.

This collision remains under investigation by the Coroner’s Office and Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police Services Collision Reconstruction Unit.
