Niagara Regional Police say there are investigating a traffic fatality that happened in Welland.

On Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at approximately 12:00pm, 3 District (Welland) uniform officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to the area of Prince Charles Drive and Fitch Street in the City of St. Welland, regarding a motor vehicle collision.

Investigation revealed that an 83 year old male was operating a white Chevrolet Trax with an 81 year old female passenger. The Trax attempted to make a right hand turn onto Prince Charles Drive when a 55 year old male who was driving a white Chevrolet Silvarado north on Prince Charles Drive collided with the Trax. The Trax then hit a pole.

The driver of the Trax was air lifted to an out of town hospital and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger of the Trax was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Silvarado suffered minor physical injuries.
