At approximately 1:15 p.m. on Sunday, January 11th, 2015 the St. Catharines Fire Services, along with the Niagara Emergency Medical Services and the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to reports of a single motor vehicle collision on Court Street at Church Street in the City of St. Catharines, within the Regional Municipality of Niagara, Ontario.

Police say the Initial investigation revealed that 72-year-old St. Catharines man was operating his 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee westbound on Church Street.  As the Jeep turned northbound it accelerated rapidly, causing the driver to lose control.  The Jeep left the east edge of roadway, mounted the curb and came into collision with an apartment building where it crashed through a west facing wall into a ground floor bedroom where two St. Catharines residents were sleeping.

The driver of the Jeep was not physically injured in the collision.

Neighbors in the apartment building came to the aid of the two residents sleeping in the bedroom.  A 32-year-old male and a 27-year-old Female were transported to the Niagara Health System St. Catharines Site where they were treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

This incident remains under investigation by members of #1 District Uniform Patrol with the assistance from Detectives of the Collision Reconstruction Unit.  Any witnesses with information regarding this collision are asked to contact Police at (905) 688-4111, extension 4233.
